Promoting Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism

The Asthon Sosi Chapter, NSDAR, strives to fulfill the objectives of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the areas of historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Each year, we choose service projects our chapter members can perform together or separately. We also attend patriotic events and encourage our members to perform community service.

With many service-oriented opportunities in DAR, our members can find meaningful activities to choose from that further these objectives. If you are interested in joining us or learning more about DAR membership, contact us for information on our meeting dates and location.

Cleaning Historic Gravestones

Historic Preservation

The Asthon Sosi Chapter, NSDAR, actively supports local preservation efforts. Examples of our activities include:

  • cleaning gravestones at the Pioneer and Military Memorial Park, Phoenix, Arizona, after being instructed in proper cleaning methods
  • documenting family histories and assisting others in the community to do so

Education

The chapter has published authors and current or former teachers as members, so education is near and dear to our members. Examples of our support of the Dzie Libei Elementary School, Cameron, Arizona, within the Navajo Nation, include:

  • donating over 200 books suitable for pre-school through sixth-grade reading levels, construction paper, pencils, composition books, and crayons for students
  • donating a laminator, laminating sheets, two computer monitors, and supplemental instruction materials for teachers
  • donating special books for teachers to read to students at Read-Aloud time

Patriotism

The Asthon Sosi Chapter, NSDAR, supports active duty service members, veterans, and new citizens of the United States. Examples of our activities include:

  • honoring local veterans as part of the official United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration
  • creating holiday cards to be sent to our active duty service members overseas, spreading words of holiday cheer to those far from family and home
  • attending naturalization ceremonies and welcoming new citizens
  • sponsoring and laying wreaths at veterans’ graves each December, as part of Wreaths Across America
